This may be a typical door it may not be, and there is no denying the brace did its job. If this is your typical door you should add a kick plate at the bottom of the door. May not be necessary if your door is steel but it wont hurt. A doorknob reinforcing plate as well as a full length strike plate( the thing your locks go in to) are a minimum. The longer the strike plate the more force that will be required to blow apart the door Jam. A man or men willing to force their way in to your home are violent criminals no if and's or but's about it. If you think giving them what they want will make them go away you are dead wrong, and worse yet, what if you don't have what they want? Think they will simply say "ah", "well", "sorry for the inconvenience". Sadly the violence begins once you have given them everything you have to give. And don't think it can't happen to you, they are not usually the most sophisticated of people they may be at the wrong address.There are hundreds of reasons why you may be targeted and most have nothing to do with you personally, your financial situation or the valuables you may or may not have. Spend what you have to to keep them out. Its minuscule compared to the cost of them getting control of you and your family. As for how it protects you when your not home? Who gives a s*** what happens when your not home.
